Artist's Description

General Bragg commanded the Confederate army at the battle of Stones River. His forces met witg great success on the initial assault on December 31 when the Union right wing was routed. The assault was delayed by regiments under general Sheridan and again by the Union Regular Brigade giving the Union forces time to prepare a final defensive line that blunted the rebel assault. The forces fought again on January 2 with the Confederate's suffering heavy casualties.
