Artist's Description

11x14 drawing using Faber Castell polychromos and Prismacolor Premier on Strathmore Bristol series 500 paper. The battle of Stones River was one of the few winter battles during the civil war taking place frpm December 31 1862 to January 2 1863. The Confederate forces under Braxton Bragg attacked the West wing of Rosecrans' Union Army throwing the majority of those divisions into a panicked retreat. The four regular army Infantry Regiments and their supporting artillery had been put together in one brigade named the Regular Brigade. They, along with supporting militia units were ordered to delay the Confederate attack long enough for the rest of the Union army to prepare a new defensive line.

The Regular Brigade fought off attack after attack never once failing in their duty. Their retrograde action gave the Union forces the time to prepare a formidable defence which withstood multiple Confederate charges until the lack of daylight ended the battle. The Regular Brigade paid a...

I have been an Interpretive Volunteer in Parks since March 2018 with 2,000 service hours logged. From March 1 through May 8 2020 I served as the Artist in Residence at Stones River National Battlefield. On May 2019 I was offered the ongoing Artist in Residence position at Gateway Arch National Park. I was the Artist in Residence for Horseshoe Bend National Military Park in Alabama from March 10 through May 10 2019. From June through August of 2018 I was a Resident Volunteer at El Morro National Monument in New Mexico. The position was part Artist in Residence and part Interpretive volunteer working with the Interpretive staff on the trails and in the visitor center.
