Description
John Brown was an American abolitionist. Brown advocated the use of armed insurrection to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States. He first gained national attention when he led small groups of volunteers during the Bleeding Kansas crisis of 1856. He and 16 white and 5 black abolitionists took over the armory at Harper's Ferry. The ensuing battle left 2 sons and 8 other followers dead. Also in the drawing are some of the Marines that captured Brown.
