Description
Dred Scott sued for his freedom before the American Civil War. After 11 years in the court system he lost his bid for freedom when the US Supreme Court ruled against him. The decision undid laws that mitigated the hatred between pro and anti slavery and hastened the Civil War. Sculptor is Harry Weber. Statue is at the Old Courthouse on the Gateway Arch National Park grounds.
